1. Set the date
2. Send invitations as early as possible, or send a 'save the date' email
3. Agree the budget – give yourself 10% flexibility either way
4. Decide on the number of guests – and write an A and B list
5. Agree on venue style: home, hotel/banqueting suite, unusual venue
(ie. museum) or marquee
6. Provisionally book hotels and B&B's as quickly as possible
7. Choose the style of your party early – themed, band, disco etc
8. When looking for a caterer, always get at least 3 quotes
9. Check for hidden costs with your suppliers
10. Let your neighbours know you are having a party
